Shlomo Weprin, the director of “Song of Ascent,” will appear with the screening on Sunday, November 17 at noon in the Grace Gamm Theater at the Dairy Arts Center.  A few tickets are still available.

Shlomo Weprin

Weprin, a filmmaker who divides his time between New York and Tel Aviv, has known Matisyahu for many years and was in a unique position to record the singer’s journey through the post-October 7 landscape. A story about the healing power of music, Song of Ascent grants viewers a unique perspective on the events of the last year in Israel and at home.

This powerful documentary/concert film follows Matisyahu’s journey as he performs three sold-out shows in Israel while facing cancellations and protests at his US tour dates due to rising anti-Israel sentiment. Thrust into a role he never sought, Matisyahu becomes a significant voice for Jewish people worldwide, navigating the complexities of identity, faith, and resilience amidst a global crisis. Watch the trailer.
