Letter: James Carville’s Comments

Dear editor:

Message to James Carville: You have revealed yourself as a woke antisemite – someone who hates Israel for what it is (a Jewish state, populated by people you consider to be privileged white oppressors). (“James Carville – Remember Him?— Takes the Lowest Road Against Israel” Boulder Jewish News August 22, 2024) Perhaps you cannot be bothered by facts, but I hope that other people are more willing to think for themselves.

It is certainly no sin to be white and many white people have fought for equal rights for all people (some even losing their lives in this effort). In addition, nearly half of Israelis are of Mizrachi Jewish descent whose forebears were driven out of their homes in the Muslim countries of the Middle East and North Africa. The State of Israel absorbed and uplifted 800,000 of these refugees during the first three decades of its existence. In contrast, Arab states refused to take in fewer than 700,000 Arabs who fled Palestine during Arab-initiated violence (an unsuccessful attempt to prevent the Jews from getting a state on land of the defunct Ottoman Empire, the location of the Jews’ ancestral homeland, dubbed Palestine by Roman conquerors). The descendants of the Arabs not absorbed by Arab countries have grown to be 6,000,000 “Palestine refugees” on UNRWA rolls. They have been told that they will remain on the world’s dole until Israel agrees to give them the homes the “refugees” claim their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, … lost in 1948. But they have also been trained to view killing Jews as a Muslim’s key to entering Heaven. (The Arab/Palestinian vision of “Two States” is a Palestinian state from which all Jews have been banished and a Muslim-majority Israel in which no Jews would be safe.

In spite of all this, Israel is the nation-state of the Jews in which non-Jews (including Arabs, even if they call themselves “Palestinians”) have equal rights. Palestinian leaders have refused multiple Israeli and US proposals for establishing their own state. The Palestinian Authority says its primary financial obligation is maintaining the liquidity of its “Martyrs’ Fund” (which pays lifelong stipends to Palestinians who answer the call for violent resistance to the “Occupation.)” The payments go to the murderer’s family if he or she is killed in the act or imprisoned; the size of the stipend is tied to the number of Jews killed – killing more Jews increases the amount of money paid.

The Hamas Charter says the Jewish state will exist until Muslims destroy it; Hamas’ actions prove those are not empty words. On October 7, 2024, many of the people killed lived in areas adjacent to Gaza and had tried to be good neighbors to the Palestinians.
