Why I Love Hummingbirds

Why I Love Hummingbirds

A hummingbird hovers over my palm.
Her translucence
swallows breath in mid-air.
barely visible vibrating wings
echoing soul.
Though colossal upheavals
quake me into question,
I have not lost faith
in small things.
Even after the earthquakes,
the floods and the fires-
and even after the massacres,
I still comb debris
For a glimmer of rubies.
