Three Bruces Opening: Portrait of a Crowd at the Messinger Gallery

The Messinger Gallery Opening for artists Bruce Borowsky, Bruce Hendersen, and Bruce Shaffer on Thursday, September 7 drew a standing-room only crowd for their conversation with Emily Tucker Bernstein. For most of an hour, Bernstein elicited fascinating insights into photography, creativity and the connections meshing between the Three Bruces over decades of knowing each other in Boulder.

About the Show

In a convergence of creativity, the gallery exhibition at the Messinger Gallery showcases a remarkable collection of photographic works by three talented local artists sharing the same first name—Bruce Borowsky, Bruce Henderson, and Bruce Shaffer. This unique show is a captivating exploration of diverse perspectives, thematic nuances, and technical prowess, united under the common banner of the Three Bruces. The show will be up through October and the images are well-curated.

Bruce Shaffer describes his work “of faces and places are found mostly in Israel and the West Bank/Palestine. With my camera, I’m looking for the inner light of my subjects, as they inform ordinary life in this extraordinary Land.” He continues, “My style is informed by documentary and street-photography sensibilities. I’m operating viscerally, always looking for what to look for.”

Bruce Henderson explains that he has been involved in Photography for more years then he would like to admit. Starting in heady days when film cameras were the only option available right through to the present with digital cameras. He describes his work as “a wide variety of photography from technical photography using large format cameras to weddings, sports, events, family photography to recording life in many parts of Australia but mainly in the Central Victorian Region.”

Bruce Borowsky is an award-winning photographer and filmmaker specializing in corporate and documentary videos. Currently, Bruce’s video production company Pixel Mill Studios works on a wide variety of corporate videos, live events, and documentaries, with Bruce working as producer, director and cameraman. Bruce serves as the Boulder County Film Commissioner and is currently the Chair of the Boulder Arts Commission.

About Staff

They call me "NewsHound IV," because I'm a clever Finnegan, sniffing out stories all over the Boulder area. I love Jewish holidays because the food is GREAT, especially the brisket. Well all the food. I was a rescue pup and glad to be on the scent!
