New Boulder Group Addresses Needs of Silver Singles

Meeting people of any age is challenging. Since the isolation from the COVID lockdown, the circumstances made it even more difficult for folks who live alone. “Reducing social isolation, especially after the years of the pandemic, is one of the best ways older adults can support their overall health,” said Stuart Feinhor, Care Manager with Jewish Family Service in Boulder. “Being in a communal environment with others at a similar stage in life brings smiles, hugs, and good, positive feelings.”

In 2022, a member of Congregation Har Hashem raised concern about the unique social needs of seniors who live alone. Their concern was that most of their friends were married couples, but they had trouble finding a space to meet other solo seniors. Lisa Webber, Director of Communications and Membership Engagement at Congregation Har HaShem, brought together representatives from many Boulder Jewish organizations to create opportunities for solo seniors to come together. From that, the Chai Life Group was created. The Chai Life Group is a collaboration of the Boulder JCC, Boulder JFS, Congregation Har HaShem, Congregation Bonai Shalom, and Congregation Nevei Kodesh. This group supports and provides outlets for single, older adults to come together for community.

The following are upcoming Boulder JCC is for older, single adults to attend. We hope to see you soon!
