Letter: Gaza and the Vulnerable President

Dear Letter to the Editor:

Bruce Ticker expresses his hopes that the Democrats will be victorious in the 2024 election. (“Column: Gaza and the Vulnerable President” BJN, December 7, 2023) I do not share his hopes and would like to give another perspective on some of the issues he raised.

That President Biden apologized to Muslim leaders for having noted that Hamas’ reported casualty counts might be inaccurate is just one sign of the weakness of his administration. The leader of the free world should certainly have the courage to stand by well-documented truth. How Hamas Wields Gaza’s Casualties as Propaganda | Time

And the apology is the least of the Biden administration’s missteps in dealing with the Islamist threat to Israel and the rest of the Western world. The reversal of the Trump administration’s sanctions on Iran has brought the world’s chief state-sponsor of terrorism back from the brink of bankruptcy, leading to Iran’s once again being able to fund its terrorist proxies. Nor has it helped that the US has made very limited responses to attacks on American assets in the Middle East. US embassy in Baghdad struck with seven mortars as attacks escalate | Reuters

In urging Israel to try to avoid civilian casualties, both Pres. Biden and VP Harris are addressing the wrong party. It is Hamas’s using Gazans as human shields which makes Israel’s exemplary efforts to avoid collateral damage doomed to be less than 100% effective. Hamas fires missiles from schoolyards, stores munitions in hospital parking lots, and hides weapons in civilians’ homes and in schools. Israel-Hamas war: IDF finds elevator in Gaza tunnel, weapons in school – The Jerusalem Post (jpost.com)

I will close by noting that Rep. Marsha Blackburn was not seeking to cut funding to UNRWA just  because an UNRWA teacher had been involved in guarding an Israeli taken hostage by Hamas. It has long been known that many UNRWA teachers are Hamas members and that textbooks used in UNRWA schools are filled with anti-Israel propaganda (like all textbooks in Hamas and PA schools). It has been reported for many years that missiles were being stored under UNRWA schools, a fact that has been confirmed in the IDF’s most recent searches. Furthermore, UNRWA has been complicit in Arab/Palestinian plans to convert Israel into a Muslim-majority state, agreeing to keep descendants of Arabs who fled Palestine in the 1940’s on the world’s dole until Israel agrees to give the (now 6,000,000) UNRWA-registered Palestine refugees the homes the “refugees” claim their parents, grandparents, great-grandparents, … lost in the area that became the modern State of Israel. If renascent Israel was able to absorb and uplift 800,000 Mizrachi Jews driven from their homes in Muslim countries following 1948, Arab countries, with vast land holdings and some with oil riches, certainly should have been able to absorb fewer than 700,000 Arabs who fled Arab-initiated violence seventy-five years ago. UNRWA’s Palestinian Schools Have a Problem—and Are Running Out of Time (foreignpolicy.com)
