It’s Chanukah!

It’s Chanukah!

Through the years

we’ve had light

with arms made of brass or glass,

colored ceramic casts,

and crafts of homemade potato lamps.

Festival of light,

each candle burning bright

in the darkness of the night.

Latkes on our dinner plate,

donuts make a dessert great!

A miracle of burning oil

let us know that God’s above

while the moon rises from the snow and soil.

We read the story of Chanukah,

what a wonderful mitzvah!

We are Maccabees

all draped in foil,

with swords of silver flashing bright!

Jelly donuts for our belly.

Windows where candles play,

  dancing flames that bluey sway

each precious light at night.
