A Day When People Stand Together

What to think of today?

Let’s gloss over the bad stuff,

go to the heart of our souls.

Heroes in Buffalo

taking care of the stranded.

Men sacrificing their lives

in the name of a cause.

Countries helping countries

to protect the rights of

a David against a Goliath.

Rescuers treading freezing water

to save the life of a drowning dog.

It’s that time of year

when God leaves our pockets

in cents and dollars,

to give to charity more than before.

People stand together

to celebrate the birth of a year.

God is in the air,

angels everywhere,

helping those they don’t even know.

We seem possessed by God

in a very good way,

and the daylight grows a bit longer

to give us hope.
