If you are caring for or are concerned about an aging parent nearby or long distance, JFS Boulder invites you to attend Caring for Your Aging Parent, a free virtual monthly drop-in support group for adult children on the first Wednesday of each month, 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. This group is facilitated by Stuart Feinhor, MA, and Jodi Ansell, MSW, who have social work and counseling backgrounds and have experience as caregivers.
Jodi led a similar group through the City of Boulder for four years, and then JFS took it over in 2015. She has co-led the group for more than five years, with a break due to COVID-19. Currently, about five caregivers attend each virtual session, and they welcome new people! Jodi says that during the support group, “Everyone tells their stories, which may reflect emotional stress, moving a parent to the Boulder area, long-distance caregiving, guilt, dealing with siblings, or navigating the health care system. Participants learn from each other since they’re on a similar path. They don’t feel so alone. I have seen participants gain perspective and a sense of empowerment and control.”
In addition, participants provide each other with emotional support, validation, and referrals to services that have helped them. Jane, a group member, shares, “I felt much better after attending the support group session. I know I have a long way to go, but I felt hopeful about the situation for the first time in a long time.”
There is no need to RSVP; just use this link to drop in any first Wednesday of the month at 5:00 p.m.
