Baruch Dayan HaEmet – Bernice Cohen z”l

Bernice S. Cohen, mother of Susan Cohen, died early the morning of May 6th, 2021 at age 99 in New York. Bernice is survived by her three children Morris, Michael and Susan, their spouses Jodi and Igor and her four grandchildren Brigitte, Jackie, Leah & Justin.

“My mom was the matriarch of our extended family, and a mother figure to many people besides her three children.  She was the one who hosted the family holiday celebrations, and she would spend days cooking and preparing to host up to 40 guests.  She was happiest when she was helping others,  whether through an organization like Hadassah, where she was chapter president for many years, or one-on-one.  She was in full possession of her faculties,  even at age 99, and she still loved to do crossword puzzles and beat her younger relatives at gin rummy and Rummikub.  She was an amazing woman and a great inspiration to me,  and I will miss her.”

The graveside funeral is Friday May 7, at Sharon Gardens, New York at 11:00 am. There will be a shiva minyan on Monday, May 10th at 8:00 pm EST, 6:00 pm MST at Susan’s brother’s house and on Zoom.

There may be a minyan in Boulder for the end of shiva and we will keep you informed.

Peace on Bernice’s soul and blessings on her memory.

Hamakom y’nachem – strength and comfort to Susan and Igor and to Susan’s brothers and their families.

Blessings,
Rabbi Marc
