River and Woods is a local, family-owned Boulder restaurant.One of our traditions is baking challah on Fridays in preparation for Shabbat. We cherish the recipe which was generously shared with us by the family of a holocaust survivor. It is baked weekly with care by our baker who is like a family member to us.
Because of the modified format we find ourselves operating in suddenly (to-go only, no dine-in service allowed) we were unable to bake challah last week for the first time in 3-1/2 years. We were humbled by the number of requests for challah bread when Friday came around.
So, for this coming week, we’ve decided to try something new – we are taking challah pre-orders for pick up this Friday, March 27th. If we can get at least 24 orders, we can put our baker back to work for a day making challah for our community.
So many of you have asked how you can help. Here’s one small thing. If we are successful we’ll keep it up. Every time you order something from River and Woods you help us provide meals for our staff, the vast majority of whom are unemployed due to the corona crisis. Thank you for your support and generosity.
