The Boulder JCC and many other organizations in the Front Range are working on the important challenge of how we best support our teens. For the last several years, the Boulder JCC has been running teen programs through BJTI, the Boulder Jewish Teen Initiative. BJTI programming aims to provide teens and their peers with a sense of their place in the Jewish community. We help 8th graders and high school students connect with their Jewish peers and explore their identities and relevant topics in a safe and welcoming space.
Since March, many of our teens have lost their social connections and our plans to finish out the school year were disrupted. As we approach a new school year, many families are making tough decisions and scrambling to make plans. We are here to support and engage Jewish teens, in Boulder County and beyond, in new and creative ways. For families with 8th graders we offer a year long program called NaviG8 which starts at the beginning of September. This program is designed to help Jewish teens as they transition to high school. We create fun opportunities for both affiliated and non-affiliated students to explore Jewish values, relevant skills and social strategies. For families with High School students, we offer Jewish Culture Club. BJTI helps teens explore Jewish values through outdoor activities, time on the farm with our goats and chickens and through creative projects.
These programs offer teens a social opportunity to stay connected to their peers and have a safe place to see each other. The JCC is committed to health and safety and will support Jewish teens in Boulder County to the best of our ability. This Fall, Jewish Culture Club will be offered once a week in person and once a week online. NaviG8 will meet in person at the JCC and will be prepared to move online if needed. For safety and security registration for all programs will be required ahead of time. Jewish Culture Club will be held in person Thursdays at 4:30 and online, Wednesday from 4:00 – 5:00 pm MST. NaviG8 will be held in person each week on Tuesdays from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm. Please join us this week for our information sessions and bring your teen!
