It doesn’t matter what experience you have or don’t have when it comes to meditation. All are welcome at the daily morning meditation sit being offered virtually by the Boulder JCC.
In the best of times, meditation can be a helpful way to destress and find more happiness and balance in our lives. But during the Pandemic, meditation can offer the emotional space for self-reflection and grounding that is necessary for us all to navigate these uncertain times.
The Zoom meditation group gathers daily, Monday through Friday, from 9:00 to 9:30 am. It is an easy way to start your day with mindfulness, and to connect with others navigating the ups and downs of life during the Pandemic.

Here’s what some of the regular participants have to say about their morning mediation experience.
“I have been so thankful for the group, which I joined near the beginning, knowing very little about meditation or mindfulness,” says Andrew Cooperstock. “Not only has the practice each day provided an antidote to the anxiety that has been particularly acute since the beginning of the pandemic, but it has introduced me to a new group of virtual friends, whom I look forward to seeing each day. The variety of teachings and connection with Judaism has been very meaningful as well.”
“The drop-in morning meditation is an opportunity to connect with a steady group of people from across the community of Boulder (and occasionally folks from farther away), representing different congregations, as well as unaffiliated individuals,” says Lila Rosenthal. “What we all have in common is the desire to have a unique spiritual connection. The roughly 30 minute sessions begin with spoken words by that day’s leader about a particular concept, theme, or value as it relates to Torah and the speaker’s personal experiences. This is about 5 minutes long, very poignant and always relatable, followed by an 18 minute quiet sit/meditation. Afterwards, there is an opportunity for participants to share over the virtual platform how they connected with the morning’s theme during their quiet sit. And then we end by saying the kaddish to honor the memorial of loved ones. It is truly a blessed way to begin a new day, setting one on a more conscious path.”
“I consider this particular format a new opening into the experiences of my aging process,” says on of the morning regulars. “I don’t think of this as meditation as much as I think of it more as mindfulness. And I think mindfulness in one’s life is really important. It’s important to examine yourself and the experiences you are going through. Also, I find the Jewish aspect of the experience satisfying for me…it’s a nice twist and an added richness.” This gal, who is 92, goes on to add, “Usually I am one of the oldest people in any group, so I’ve had a lot of life experiences. I consider myself very lucky at this point in my life, for a lot of reasons…because I had a “Beshert,” because I don’t have to bribe my kids too much and because I am independent. I feel lucky to be in this meditation group as well.”
