JEWISHcolorado and JCRC Commend House Foreign Affairs Committee Pro-Israel Actions

JEWISHcolorado and the Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) are pleased to recognize the significant steps taken yesterday by a U.S. House of Representatives Committee to support Israel and denounce the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) campaign against Israel.

The House Foreign Affairs Committee passed two bipartisan pro-Israel resolutions, HR 246 and HR 1837.

In House Resolution 246, the House Foreign Affairs Committee authorized security assistance to Israel and opposed the global BDS movement, which aims to discriminate against Israel through economic, cultural and political boycotts.  Colorado was the fourth state in the country to pass state legislation opposing the BDS movement; this resolution would oppose BDS efforts on the national level.  HR 246 also supports implementation of the 2014 United States-Israel Strategic Partnership Act, which aims to enhance science and technology cooperation between the two countries. The resolution has 341 cosponsors, including 6 of 7 Colorado Congressmembers.  The Colorado Congressmember cosponsors are Rep. Scott Tipton (R-CO-3), Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO-6), Rep, Diana DeGette (D-CO-1), Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO-4), Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO-2), and Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO-7).

House Resolution 1837, the U.S.-Israel Cooperation Enhancement and Regional Security Act is a bipartisan measure to expand security and economic ties between the two countries, including increased security assistance to Israel and funding for cooperative programs with Israel over five years. This resolution has 278 cosponsors, including 6 of 7 Colorado Congressmembers. The Colorado Congressmember cosponsors are Rep. Scott Tipton (R-CO-3), Rep. Jason Crow (D-CO-6), Rep, Diana DeGette (D-CO-1), Rep. Joe Neguse (D-CO-2), Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO-5), and Rep. Ed Perlmutter (D-CO-7).

JEWISHcolorado and JCRC thank the House members who cosponsored HR 246 and HR 1837 and urge the House of Representatives to adopt these pro-Israel measures.
