Liz Fox

Join us as Liz Fox shares excerpts from her book “We Are Going to Be Lucky.” It tells the story of Liz’s parents, first-generation idealistic Jewish American couple separated by war, captured in their own words. Lenny and Diana Miller were married just one year before America entered World War II. They vowed to write to one another daily after Lenny enlisted in 1943.

As Lenny made his way through basic training in Mississippi to the beaches of Normandy and eventually to the Battle of the Bulge, Diana struggled financially, giving up her job as a machinist to become a mother. Their contributions to the war effort—Lenny’s crucial missions as an Army scout and Diana’s work in the Brooklyn Navy Yard—are the backdrop to their daily correspondence, including insightful discussions of democracy, politics, and economic hardship.

After decades of gathering dust, their words have been carefully transcribed and thoughtfully edited and annotated by their daughter, Liz Fox. Liz and Sid Fox will read a selection of these letters, bringing them to life, allowing us to be part of their story.

Proudly sponsored by Congregation Har HaShem & Boulder Chapter of Hadassah.

About Sid Fox

Sid Fox renewed his interest and study from his Hebrew School days (where he was inspired by Deborah Pessin's insightful series 'The Story of the Jewish People') when he read James Michener's "The Source". Sid eventually taught a two semester Sunday class for adults at their home when their children were at Sunday School. It was based on 15 years study of the Bible, the three hundred years of modern research and Biblical Archaeology areas he continued to pursue as he branched out to Shakespeare, the Classics and other interests.
