Denver, CO, September 13, 2019…. The Anti-Defamation League Mountain States Region is excited to announce its Fall Dinner to be held at the Seawell Ballroom in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts on Wednesday, November 6, 2019 at 6:00 pm. As part of an evening focused on igniting passion for civil rights and respect for all, ADL is pleased to present its Torch of Liberty Award to Robin and Steven Chotin, and their children Mauri, Whitney and Ross. ADL is delighted to showcase these exceptional individuals who have passed the philanthropic torch from generation to generation.
In Denver, and nationally, the Chotin name is synonymous with tzedakah (charitable giving) and communal leadership. It is no surprise to find them in the illustrious company of previous Torch of Liberty honorees.

Steven founded The Chotin Group Corporation in 1984. Since inception, the firm has successfully invested in structured financial products and real estate opportunities. Throughout his career, Steven has been a strong supporter of social and political causes in our community, country and Israel. Today, Steven is the Director of The Chotin Foundation. The Foundation supports a number of community-based organizations, with a special emphasis on those that help the underprivileged and others that support Jewish-related causes.

Robin, who was inspired by the caring examples set by her parents Harry and Marie Cohen, has taken on numerous leadership roles in Denver and beyond. She did so even as she devoted the majority of her time to raising her children. Robin’s extensive communal resume includes serving on the Board and as Coordinating Council Chair of Allied Jewish Federation of Colorado (now known as JEWISHcolorado), the governing body of the Jewish Federation of North America National Women’s Philanthropy Board, the Board of Shalom Park and the Board of Trustees of National Jewish Health, where she co-chairs its REV the Runway Event. Robin also serves as a Director of The Chotin Foundation. Robin’s ground-breaking efforts have been recognized by many including her receipt of Federation’s prestigious Golda Meir Award.
With regard to the ever-increasing leadership and philanthropic roles Mauri, Whitney and Ross have taken on in their own communities, as well as working with The Chotin Foundation, Robin stated, “Steven and I are very proud that our three children have picked up the torch and chosen to become involved in such meaningful ways.” Steven adds, “In addition to their wonderful involvement in so many worthwhile organizations, Robin and I are blessed that our children have given us seven wonderful grandchildren.”
Scott Levin, ADL Mountain States Regional Director, noted that the Torch of Liberty event has a long and storied history of recognizing intergenerational leadership.
“The Chotin family, like all the honoree families we have had the privilege of highlighting over the years, have contributed immensely to the betterment of our world. All of these families have lit the torch for future generations.”
While Steven admitted that the family typically avoids the limelight, he was motivated for his family to accept the Torch of Liberty Award due to divisions in our country. “ADL has never been more relevant than it is today,” he remarked. “With all the divisiveness we are facing on a daily basis, coupled with the outpouring of hate and prejudice that used to be confined to the fringes of our society, ADL has its work cut out for it. We feel an obligation to support and highlight its terrific efforts.”
This year’s Torch of Liberty event will be a truly celebratory experience. In addition, to honoring the Chotin family, event guests will be treated to an uplifting musical performance by the acclaimed Hazel Miller Band. Hazel has been called a “force of nature” and her voice has been described as “stunning, moving and powerful.” Hazel and her band will be an entertaining and fun addition to the Torch of Liberty program.
