Ode to Chanukah

Time to candles we will light
a candle lit each and every night,
until there’s a symmetrical eight!
After midnight, you’re too late!
Place the menorah in the window
get everyone to be ‘in the know’!
Eat potato latkes until your full,
remember those who have no fuel.
Applesauce is always nice,
better than that boring rice!
Find some shiny, gold coins, gelt
for a warm hug, so heartfelt.
Sing the ancient, uplifting songs
that God lent his might to keep us strong.
Pass around those thought out presents,
books that talk and dolls who’re peasants.
Silver rings and bangly things,
tools and phones that loudly sings,
each night a gift just right.
Stories of how we were granted light,
holy oil lasted and lasted still,
a miracle in the winter chill!
We recall our God’s gift to all
and think of how to do his call!
