Denver, CO – JEWISHcolorado is thrilled to congratulate Cindy Coons on receiving the prestigious North American Grinspoon Award for Excellence in Jewish Education. Cindy is the Director of Jewish Explorers, a program designed for Jewish and Interfaith families to learn about Jewish values, culture, traditions, history and holidays in their local communities. The award celebrates successful innovation in Jewish education and awardees who teach with distinction are recognized. Eligible professionals are located in over 25 Harold Grinspoon Foundation partner communities across the United States and Canada.
As the recipient of this award, Cindy will receive a $500 grant and a $500 professional development grant from the Harold Grinspoon Foundation as well as a $500 matching grant from JEWISHcolorado to be used towards Jewish Explorers programming.
“This is a tremendous and unexpected honor,” said Cindy. “Jewish Explorers is such a special program that allows families to step into a space and celebrate the opportunity to be Jewish regardless of their background. I am honored to be a part of this program.”
The award is by nomination only. One professional per community can be selected each year. Susan Chayet, PJ Library Professional for JEWISHcolorado, nominated Coons and presented the unexpecting Cindy with award notification at a JEWISHcolorado staff meeting. Cindy’s husband and children surprised her with a visit to the office to congratulate her.
