While you may expect art to be part of the curriculum of a preschool student, it’s not often that children get to work with nationally-renowned artists. That is exactly what happened at the Jay & Rose Phillips Early Childhood Center at the Boulder JCC last week. Nationally recognized local artist, Will Day came to the J to work with each of the 170 students over a two-day period on a collaborative piece of artwork.
As you may have noticed, the project caught the attention of the community, and landed on the front page of the Daily Camera on Thursday, December 7. In the article, Day states, “Art is a great way to bring people together, at all different levels.” This is fully embodied at the Boulder JCC as art is immersed into all of the J’s programming, from the Early Childhood Center and summer camps to the Arts and Cultural Program, ACE.
While you can read all about this project in the Daily Camera article, you can also have the opportunity to meet this truly inspiring artist, as he is displaying artwork at the JCC. Day is unveiling his collection at an Art Exhibition Opening at the JCC on Thursday, December 14, where he will have a meet and greet at 5:30pm. Seeing as this falls during the week of Chanukah, he has aptly titled this collection “Festival of Color.” Find out more information about the art exhibition at the Boulder JCC website.
