Tisha b’Av – Services of Commemoration

Tisha b’Av, the 9th day of the month of Av, commemorates the destruction of of the First and Second Temples in Jerusalem and calamities throughout Jewish history.  This day is solemn and marked by fasting, by introspection and by chanting the hauntingly mournful Book of Eicha (lamentations) and other readings that reflect the themes of the day. Please refer to the schedule below for service times at Bonai Shalom.  

Saturday, August 13th

7:59 pm – Fast begins
9:00 pm- Maariv service
9:30 pm- Candle light reading of Eicha (Lamentations) followed by traditional and contemporary readings and reflections.

Sunday, August 14th 

9:00 am – Shacharit*, followed by readings and reflections
7:00 pm – Mincha*, Maariv and break fast.
8:28 pm -Fast ends
