Baruch Dayan HaEmet: Gil Hersh z”l

star-of-davidGilbert Hersh (Gershon Natan ben Aharon David v’Bayla Rochel), father of Jessica, Orly, Eliza, Aaron, Eve and James and others for whom he was a surrogate father; grandfather of Lila and Sarah Crank, Rafi and Sophia McPhee, Oliver and Mae Goldman and Devon and Derek Faseag. Gil.passed away peacefully on Shabbat morning at 10:40am California time, just as Charna finished her dvar torah at Bonai taught in his honor. Gil was visiting his California family when he suffered a large stroke from which he could not recover. Several family members were with him in his last moments.

Leaving the world on Shabbat is considered a great merit in the Jewish tradition!

Jessica described Gil saying, “he always, all his life, had the biggest lovingest heart.” He was a member of at least three different shuls, including Bonai and Pardes Levavot.
Shiva will take place at Jessica’s home in Erie (the Bonai office can give you the address). Here is the schedule for shiva visiting and service times:

Monday 6:00 pm – short service, after which family members and guests are welcome to share reflections on Gil
Tuesday 12:00 – 8:00 pm – time to visit the family
Tuesday 6:00 pm – short services with reflections
Wednesday 6:00 pm – short services with reflections
Thursday evening – shiva at the Har Shalom Synagogue in Fort Collins

The family requests that food brought to shiva be kosher-style (though need not be from a kosher kitchen).

Donations in Gil’s honor can be made to American Jewish World Service or Larimer County Food Bank.

Hamakom y’nachem – blessings of strength and comfort to Gil’s large and loving family. who will miss him so much.

Peace on the neshama of Gershon Natan. May his memory always be a blessing.

Warmly,
Rabbi Marc and Rabbinic Intern Hannah
