The Plots Thicken At Mountain View Cemetery

Mountain View Cemetery

In October, 2014, Haver, Inc. purchased 23 additional plots in the Jewish section of Mountain View Cemetery.  Unlike in the past, when the individual synagogues purchased plots, these were purchased as a group, with the intention of creating a community cemetery in line with the Rules and Regulations developed by Haver in 2014.  A portion of these plots are reserved for traditional burials in a designated section.  The majority of the plots are in the community section, which allows for the burial of non-Jews (kerovei Yisrael, as defined in Haver’s Rules and Regulations) and cremains.

Haver initially meant to hold these plots and sell them only as needed, due to how few plots were still available for sale by each synagogue.  It has come to our attention, however, that there are people in the community who would like to pre-purchase plots.  To accommodate that need, we are now allowing pre-sales of these plots at the price of $2,250.  Payment must be made in full for these 23 plots.  Please contact Rachel Amaru, Haver Director, at rachelamaru@gmail.com if you are interested in purchasing any of these plots.

Additional plots can be purchased directly from Crist at the price of $2800. As above, there will be some plots set aside in the section for traditional burials, with the majority of the plots being in the community section.  Crist will provide financing on plots purchased at this higher price.  This price will be in effect through February 28, 2017.

Over the next two years, Haver, synagogues and community members will be evaluating what our next steps will be in insuring that there are sufficient burial spaces for Boulder’s Jewish community.  Options include expanding the Jewish section at Mountain View by up to 2,000 plots, or purchasing land elsewhere for development of a dedicated Jewish cemetery.  In addition, there are negotiations in process for the development of a new Jewish section at Green Mountain Cemetery, with approximately 165 plots.  (Green Mountain will follow Haver’s Rules and Regulations for a community section.  There will be no traditional section).
