This month’s First Friday program at Congregation Bonai Shalom is a little different from most — it is on the second Friday of July, July 11, due to the Independence Day holiday of July 4th.
Everything we thought we knew about the Bible, Midrash, ancient Jewish religious practices and Jewish literature changed radically with the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Come and learn about the major implications of more than 800 documents and be prepared for some big surprises!
Dr. Naomi Susan Schwartz Jacobs is a scholar and teacher of ancient Jewish writings and history, especially those writings that were lost from Jewish consciousness and have only now been read by Jews again. Jacobs most recently taught at Washington University in Saint Louis and as an adult Jewish educator in Saint Louis and Boulder; she also teaches Hebrew at Bonai Shalom’s Religious School. Dr. Jacobs’ insights into the Dead Sea Scrolls come in part from her studies with an original member of the Dead Sea Scroll deciphering team.
Cost is $18 per adult, $15 per child, and not exceeding $54 per family. All First Friday programs begin with services at 6:00 pm and followed with dinner at 7:00 pm. Wine is BYOB (Kosher only). Please label your wine if you do not wish to share. At Bonai Shalom, 1527 Cherryvale Rd., Boulder. Please RSVP at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-442-6605
