star-of-david Gary Rosenberg z”l, brother of Shauna Sadow of Boulder, died today of refractory intracranial hypertension. Gary Benjamin Rosenberg (Yosef Binyamin ben Gershom v’Bluma) was 37 years old and surrounded by his loving family until the end.

Gary was a happy, loving guy who loved trivia and gaming and was studying to become an archival librarian with the hopes of getting a job caring for the Grateful Dead Archive at UC Santa Cruz. When you became his friend you were his friend forever. He was a Young Judea Year Course graduate (like his sister & brother-in-law) and the family have requested that any donations in his honor and memory should be made to the “Gary Rosenberg Year Course Scholarship Fund”. Please just note Gary’s name is the “note/comments” box on Paypal or your check.

The family will be receiving shiva calls at the home of Arti & Josh Goldstein this coming Sunday from 2:00 – 4:00 pm, with minyanim at 6:00 pm on Sunday and Monday evenings at the same place.

Alav hashalom – peace on the soul of Yosef Binyamin.

Hamakom y’nachem – blessings of strength and comfort to Shauna, Phil, Noah, Jacob, Kate and all the family on this tragic and untimely loss; to Gary’s mother and stepfather, sisters, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. A beloved son, brother, uncle and friend who will be so very missed.

About Rabbi Marc Soloway

Marc is a native of London, England where he was an actor and practitioner of complimentary medicine before training as a rabbi in London, Jerusalem and Los Angeles. He was ordained at the Ziegler School of Rabbinical Studies at the American Jewish University in 2004 and has been the the spiritual leader at Bonai Shalom in Boulder ever since. Marc was a close student of Rabbi Zalman Schechter Shalomi and received an additional smicha (rabbinic ordination) from him in 2014, just two months before he died. He has been the host and narrator of two documentary films shown on PBS; A Fire in the Forest: In Search of the Baal Shem Tov and Treasure under the Bridge: Pilgrimage to the Hasidic Masters of Ukraine. Marc is a graduate of the Institute of Jewish Spirituality, a fellow of Rabbis Without Borders, has traveled to Ghana in a rabbinic delegation with American Jewish World Service and co-chair of the Rabbinical Council and national board member of Hazon, which strives to create more sustainable Jewish communities. In 2015, Marc was among a group of 12 faith leaders honored at The White House as “Champions of Change” for work on the climate. Marc is a proud member of Beit Izim, Boulder’s Jewish goat milking co-op.
