Boulder JFS Announces 2nd “Reel Hope Boulder” Fundraiser

Boulder-JFS-Centered-CMYKBoulder Jewish Family Service (JFS) will host its second annual fundraiser, “Reel Hope Boulder” on Sunday, October 26, 6:30 pm at the Dairy Center for the Arts, 2590 Walnut Street in Boulder. Guests will enjoy an evening with Hollywood composer Rob Simonsen, renowned for his musical work on major films, including “The Way Way Back,” “Life of Pi,” “Little Miss Sunshine“, and more. Ron Bostwick, a freelance event producer and announcer, has interviewed many guests at the Boulder International Film Festival, along with David Klawans at last year’s Reel Hope Boulder event. He will interview Simonsen, who will share his music and personal insights about how he composes for films, TV shows, and commercials.

Guests will enjoy a pre-program reception with food and drinks. Ticket prices: VIP: $90 (includes private dessert reception with Rob Simonsen); General admission: $54; Students/Seniors: $36. Sponsorship opportunities are also available. All proceeds benefit Boulder JFS.

For tickets and more information, visit or contact Emily Andrews at 303.415.1025.

With a keen instinct for storytelling, Simonsen has established himself amongst a new wave of composers making an impact in the industry. Under the mentorship of and in collaboration with Academy Award-winning film composer Mychael Danna, Simonsen has co-scored numerous films, including the indie hit “(500) Days of Summer.” Rob has also provided music for other critical and commercial successes, including “Moneyball” and Ang Lee’s “Life of Pi,” which took home the 2013 Oscar for Best Score.

Working independently, Simonsen garnered two 2013 World Soundtrack Academy Award nominations for the Sundance hits “The Spectacular Now” (directed by James Ponsoldt) and “The Way, Way Back” (directed by Nat Fax and Jim Rash). That same year, he scored the global ad launch for Apple’s iPhone 5 and provided the iconic piano melody for their “Everyday” campaign.

This year is poised to be his biggest yet, having recently completed work on “Wish I Was Here” (directed by Zach Braff), to be released by Focus Features in July, and “Foxcatcher” (directed by Bennett Miller), slated for premiere in competition at Cannes and to be released by Sony Pictures Classics in November.

Simonsen also recently co-founded The Echo Society, a dynamic collective of composers, musicians, and visual artists that create and perform new and progressive works in an ongoing Los Angeles concert series.

The 2014 Reel Hope Boulder committee includes: Deb Grojean, chair; Molly Bayer; Carolyn Bleicher; Rebecca Cohen; Cathy Cohn; Summer Lenderman; Linda Loewenstein; and Karli Sherwinter.
