Marvin (Mel) Susskind (Moshe ben Herschel v’ Sara), father of Howard Susskind, passed away on Shabbat, Saturday November 29 in Newburgh, NY. He had a normal day last Monday the 24th, going out, calling family, and then suffered a large stroke at home later that evening from which he never regained consciousness.
Howard was with him in the hospital on Thanksgiving and Friday, and although he was not able to speak or open his eyes, he seemed to respond and be aware of the presence of family members.
Mel was very committed to education, spending literally his entire career teaching in the Newburgh public schools, and living right across the street from the school where he taught as a substitute teacher until very recently.
He will be buried near his parents in the Agudas Israel cemetery in Windsor, NY later this week. The funeral is not set yet and we will keep you informed of any shiva minyanim in Boulder at the end of the week at Howard’s home.
Alav hashalom, peace on the soul of Moshe ben Herschel v’Sara.
Hamakom y’nachem et haaveilim – blessings of strength and comfort to Howard and all of Mel’s family
