Orot Yisrael announces two new weekly classes with Rabbi Ami Silver. Classes are open to all, no previous experience required. Drop-ins are welcome. Both classes begin the week of November 17th, but don’t worry if you miss the first session!
“Journeys With the Chassidic Masters” – Mondays at 7:45 pm, 3903 Pinon Drive (near Har Hashem South entrance)
In this class we will explore Chassidic writings and delve into the heart of Chassidut – what it is and how it can affect our lives. Our first classes will look at the origins of this spiritual revolution through the fundamental teachings of its founder, the Baal Shem Tov. We will then go on to dive more deeply into the teachings and personalities of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, the Mei HaShiloach (Rebbe of Ishbitz) and the Piaseczna Rebbe (the Warsaw Ghetto Rebbe, author of “Aish Kodesh”) among others. Text, stories, discussion and niggunim.
Talmud Study, tractate Megilla – Wednesdays at 7:45 pm, 3903 Pinon Drive (near Har Hashem South entrance)
Want to swim in the “sea of Talmud”? Whether you are an experienced learner or a beginner, come explore the deep and textured world of the Gemara. We will be studying tractate Megilla which focuses primarily on Purim and Megillat Esther and also discusses topics such as the end of prophecy, the canonization of Scriptures, public Torah reading, the importance of the synagogue and others. This is a text-based class that provides fertile ground for group discussion and exploration. It’s an exciting and fun ride. If you have your own copy of this volume please bring it.
