My name is Rachel Allen and I was born and raised in Lodi, California but now call Colorado my home. I am graduating this May with a major in International Affairs with a concentration in the Middle East and will hopefully also be a Jewish Studies major.
1. What organization are you interning for and what do you do for it?
I am interning for Rose Community Foundation in Denver under the Jewish Life program area. I work on a variety of interesting projects such as event planning and the creation of a Jewish Learning Database. I also have the opportunity to observe Rose Youth Foundation meetings and have acquired an in-depth understanding of the grant-giving process.
2. What are your goals, this semester, for your internship?
My internships in the past have always been pretty informal. With this internship I am learning how to work and interact in a professional environment. I also wanted to learn how to work with deadlines and to improve my professional writing skills.
3. How are you active in the Jewish community on the CU campus?
Last year I had the amazing opportunity to study abroad in Jerusalem. Since returning, I have thrown myself into the Jewish community in Boulder, trying to get involved in as many ways as possible. I am on the student board of Hillel and I’m the PR/Communications intern as well. I love attending events at both Hillel and Chabad. I was a co-chair for the Allied Jewish Federation of Denver’s annual Super Sunday fundraiser event. I am also enrolled in the Jewish Studies program on campus and will be graduating with a double major in Jewish Studies and International Affairs!
4. What do you plan on doing after graduating?
This is the million-dollar question. I am looking into a variety of opportunities but I would really like to return to Israel and perhaps enroll in grad school there. In the future, I would love to work in the Jewish professional world for a nonprofit or NGO.
5. What is the airspeed velocity of an unladen swallow?
What do you mean, an African or European Swallow?
