Spiritual Revolution Revisted at the BJCC

Aryae Coopersmith then...

Too young to remember the 60s? Were there, but can’t remember a thing?

Join two men who were there, at the epicenter of the Jewish Spiritual Revolution, who remember very well those halcyon days.

Rabbi Zalman Schacter-Shalomi will join Aryae Coopersmith in a special book event at the Boulder JCC on Tuesday, July 19, 7:30-9pm. There is no charge for this event, which is co-sponsored by the Boulder JCC, Nevei Kodesh and Pardes Levavot.

Coopersmith’s newly published memoir, “Holy Beggars: A Journey from Haight Street to Jerusalem,” is about a spiritual teacher (Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach) and a student (the author) in 1960s San Francisco, and the House of Love and Prayer that they started. The story about lives that were changed forever includes a colorful cast – including Timothy Leary, Richard Alpert, Allen Ginsberg, Murshid Samuel Lewis (“Sufi Sam”), Swami Satchidananda, Ajari Warwick, Reb Zalman, and many more.

... and now, with his book, "Holy Beggars"

Coopersmith will share some stories from the book, after which he and Reb Zalman will trade thoughts about the spiritual revolution of those times. A group discussion will end the evening.

Coopersmith is now CEO of the HR Forums, whose members are Silicon Valley’s human resource executives, which he co-founded in 1992 with Tom Peters, co-author of “In Search of Excellence.” In 1968 he co-founded Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach’s House of Love and Prayer, which became an historic part of the legend of 1960’s San Francisco.

You can see more and RSVP to attend at the Facebook page at Boulder Book Reading & Discussion. Also, visit www.holybeggars.com for more information about the book and its author.
