June 28, 2011 – New York, NY – Buying Bissli and Bamba snacks can help Sderot’s children have a chance to be kids.
Jewish National Fund (JNF) has once again partnered with Osem, leading kosher grocery food manufacturer, to offer a promotion that will raise money for JNF’s Sderot Indoor Recreation Center. Stores that carry Osem products will display Bissli and Bamba snacks that feature a JNF strip. The program was launched June 24th and will run for 8 weeks. A portion of the proceeds from the sale of the snacks will go towards the Sderot indoor playground.
Osem has been a JNF partner for several years. As a member of JNF’s Loyalty program, Osem offers exclusive savings while giving consumers the opportunity to support Israel. As well, JNF/Osem’s Matzah with a Mitzvah program has raised over $2 million to date. In recognition of this incredibly successful program, a pillar in the Be’er Sheva River Park will be dedicated to Osem and the Matzah with a Mitzvah Tree Planting Program.
We, at Osem USA, are delighted to have this opportunity to raise money for JNF’s recreation center in Sderot where children can have fun and feel safe and secure,” said Kobi Afek, Osem USA’s Director of Marketing. “It is a fantastic way to support Israeli children through proceeds from Osem sales. Every child in the US who consumes Bamba and Bissli is helping other children in Israel. By partnering with JNF we bring more meaning to our consumers and educate our children about social responsibility.”
The Sderot Indoor Recreation Center was built to give the children of Sderot a chance to simply be kids. The city of Sderot, located on the border with Gaza, has endured continual Kassam rocket attacks over the past few years, leaving its children to grow up in the shadow of violence, fear, and uncertainty. The all-inclusive playground, which doubles as a bomb shelter, opened in March 2009 to provide Sderot’s youth with a place to have fun, connect with friends, enjoy stimulating classes, and be children beyond the conflict in an environment that is safe and secure.
Jewish National Fund (JNF) began in 1901 collecting coins in blue boxes to purchase land and return the Jewish people to their homeland. In over 109 years, JNF has evolved into a global environmental leader and become the central address for partnering with the land and people of Israel. JNF has planted 250 million trees; built over 1,000 parks and recreational areas; constructed security roads; educated students around the world about Israel; created new communities so that Jews from around the world would have a place to call home; discovered new means of growing plants under arid conditions, bringing green to the desert; and built over 205 reservoirs and water recycling centers, increasing Israel’s water supply by 12%. Today, JNF is supporting Israel’s newest generation of pioneers by bringing life to the Negev Desert, Israel’s last frontier.
A United Nations NGO, JNF sponsors international conferences on desertification, shares afforestation techniques, and funds research on arid land management. JNF is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and continuously earns top ratings from charity overseers. For more information on JNF, call 888-JNF-0099 or visit www.jnf.org.
Osem Ltd., the leading exporter of kosher grocery foods to the United States and the largest grocery food company in Israel, was established in 1942 in what was then known as Palestine, six years before Israeli statehood. Osem USA is the U.S. subsidiary of Osem Israel. Through its partnership with the Jewish National Fund (JNF), Osem USA contributes $2 for every 5-lb box of matzah it sells to plant trees in Israel (up to $400,000 a year). Since the program’s inception in 2006 – with Osem USA reaching the ceiling every year – it has donated more than $2 million to the JNF, resulting in the planting of an estimated 400,000 trees in Israel. Today, OSEM USA products are available in more than 5,000 independent and supermarkets stores in the United States. The best-selling products of Osem USA are: Israeli (Pearl Couscous) Matzah, Bamba (a peanut butter snack), Bissli (a party wheat snack that comes in eight different flavors), Mini-Soup Crotons (Mini-Mandels), and Soup and Seasoning Mixes. Bamba peanut-butter snack, which was developed in Israel in the 1960’s, is today one of that country’s most iconic brands and best-selling products. Bissli (wheat snack) is a close second to it in sales in Israel.
