NY Trivia: Now THAT’S a Bargain

Q: Dutch colonial Director-General Peter Minuit purchased the island of Manhattan from the Lenape in 1626. What is the legendary purchase price? What is the actual purchase price? And where is the original contract deed now located?

A: The legendary price was $24 in trinkets or glass beads. The actual price was 60 guilder (about $1000 today). The contract is on display in the Hague, Netherlands.
