NK Every Day – Nevei Kodesh Celebrates New Space!

Next time you are in driving by (or to) the Dairy Queen on north 28th St., look up! Congregation Nevei Kodesh has finally settled into its new space at 3269 28th St., between Glenwood and Iris.

This has been a long process for our Jewish renewal congregation. Founded in 1993, we began the process of having a “home of our own” years ago. After many disappointments, we found this space last fall. It was perfect for so many of our needs (and terrific for ice cream addicts!) but at that time it wasn’t handicap accessible. We decided to work to make it a real home. We have installed a new lift (in the rear of the space) and in March are doing final construction to make it 100% accessible. Currently, we have a sanctuary/meeting room for up to 100 people as well as our offices at the space. The west facing sanctuary has a beautiful view of the mountains, and we have outdoor balcony space in the front and rear of our space.

To celebrate, we are offering two weeks of daily events, called “NK Every Day.” These (mostly free) events include services (morning davvenen with Reb Zalman, Shabbat services, Purim), classes (everything from Hebrew, Jewish prayer and Kabbalah, to drum circles, environmental issues, and embodiment theology). We also have activities that are just plain fun, such as a family movie night, a Jewish recipe exchange, children’s art projects, and more. There are activities for all ages and interests. All are welcome to attend, whether part of Nevei Kodesh or not.

We’ve had a lot of ribbing about being directly above a Dairy Queen.  Our Kosher Hams Comedy Troupe has even created a production of “Little House on the Dairy” for Purim.  But mostly it’s great.   We’re a dairy/parve site so people can always stop by and get a treat before or after events.   (There’s even another open space under us looking for a food vendor.  Kosher deli, anyone???)

We hope you will join us, for any of these special events, or just to check out our new space and say “hi!” You can find a complete listing of all our special activities the next two weeks at http://www.neveikodesh.org/programs/specialevents/special_events.html
