Community-Wide Family Mitzvah Project

The Boulder Jewish community is sponsoring a “Crayons to Calculators” school supply drive and we need your help!

With the high costs of school supplies, purchasing supplies presents challenges to many economically disadvantaged families in the Boulder Valley and St. Vrain school districts. The goal of this project is to increase community support of children in need and ensure that all students start school with the supplies they need to succeed. For the 2010-11 school year, the program will fulfill the needs of nearly 7,000 students!

How Can You Help?

Through the generosity of the 18 Pomegranates Foundation and the Oreg Foundation, we are able to purchase backpacks! We are asking for your help in filling these backpacks with supplies.

There are three ways you can help:

  • When shopping with your child for school supplies, please purchase supplies to fill a backpack, OR you can purchase a non-gender specific backpack to donate along with the school supplies (list of supplies is below).
  • If you don’t have time to shop, please consider a donation and we’ll shop for you! Please send a tax-deductible check to: Crayons to Calculators project, c/o Boulder JCC, 3800 Kalmia Ave., Boulder, CO 80301. Check should be made payable to Boulder JCC.
  • Volunteers from the community are needed to help stuff, organize and distribute packs during the first two weeks of August. For information on volunteering, go to
