BJDS: Outstanding Standardized Test Scores

Boulder Jewish Day School Continues to Demonstrate Success with Outstanding Standardized Achievement Test Scores

Boulder Jewish Day School uses standardized achievement testing to track student progress and measure curricular outcomes.  Below is a table summarizing our results on the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS) for the 3rd & 5th grades for the 2009-2010 School Year.  This standardized measure is given in January to our 3rd & 5th grade students every other year. These outstanding test results are an excellent measure of our continuing academic success, and we are pleased to share these results with the community.

The ITBS is a norm-referenced measure.  Standardized instruments, such as the ITBS, give us information about how well children score when compared to thousands of students of the same ages and grades across the country.  Individual test scores are confidential; however, we are happy to share BJDS’s overall average scores when compared to National School Norms.

BJDS takes great pride in offering a balanced and integrated curriculum.  We do not “teach to the test.”  It is important to remember that testing is but a single sample of a child’s overall achievement.  Therefore, when reviewing results, consideration should be given to the limitations of the test as well as a child’s daily classroom performance and other methods of evaluation the teachers use.

Our 2009/2010 standardized test results for the percentile rank of average standardized scores show that the Boulder Jewish Day School

  • Scores the same or better than 95% of national school norms in reading
  • Scores the same or better than 96% of national school norms in language
  • Scores the same or better than 94% of national school norms in math
  • Core totals, which include reading, language arts and math, place us in the 98th percentile of national school norms.

In real language, this means that BJDS 3rd and 5th graders test among the best 5% of all the schools in the comparison pool.
