Delicious details about the recent J-Teen Chocolate Seder - sounds sweet!

This past Saturday, April 23, (after Shabbat was over) the J-Teen department at the Boulder JCC hosted their first Chocolate Seder. The event turned out to be a great success! With 18 Jewish High Schoolers in attendance, the seder was led by two of the J-Teen Council members: Savi Bailey and Yuliya Levertova.

The night was filled with 4 cups of chocolate milk, strawberries for the karpas, chocolate fondue for the salt-water, chocolate covered fruit for the charoset, bitter sweet chocolate for the maror, and s’mores for the Hillel sandwich. There was also some Matzah Brei to eat to offset the chocolate. All of the food was, of course, 100% Kosher for Passover.

The 4 questions were asked with a chocolate twist, as well as the Retelling of the Story of Exodus. Following, the Afikoman was hidden and, after much chaos, was finally found by Sophia Bagi who won a $15 iTunes gift card! The seder concluded with the final cup of chocolate milk (for those who had room left) and ended with everyone feeling more than satiated.

Pictures of the event can be found on the J-Teen facebook fan page here and upcoming J-Teen events can be found at the Boulder JCC website (www.boulderjcc.org) under the J-Teen tab.

With stomachs full of chocolate, the J-Teen council is excited to put on this event again next year!

OK team, here we are in the middle of Passover. We’ve been through 1 or 2 seder dinners and at least 1 dinner of leftovers, so the soup/brisket/chicken routine is about done (at least in our house).

What are you having for dinner tonight? Please tell all by leaving a comment below (and simple instructions or a link to a recipe too!). Always looking for inspiration, we figured we would open this one up to the community.

Do tell! Looking for fresh ideas!

Nothin' but Net! The Jews take on the Catholics this Sunday in Boulder. How did this come about? That and 3 more questions for CU Chabad Rabbi Yisroel.

The Jews take on the Catholics Sunday, April 17 at 3 p.m. at Boulder High School. Even as we get ready for Passover, we thought of 4 Questions for CU Chabad Rabbi Yisroel about this historic game.

How did you get the idea for the basketball game?

I was getting to know the priest across the street [from the new Chabad house], and he was laughing and he was joking when we become friends we should have a basketball game. I thought it was a great idea and was telling everyone about it. He forgot about it. Months later, I saw him on campus and the priest said, “Are you the rabbi” and I said, “Who are you?” I then asked him: “Are you still up for the basketball game?” It is a fun, sport activity and everyone likes the idea. Also, it is a great idea to do this before Pesach and recruit for the Seders. I strongly believe in having all the Jews come to the Seder.

How did you pick the people for the team?

Jordan Malka, the team captain, did. He put a pretty good team together.

What are you most excited about?

The whole thing. It’s an original idea and is really exciting and a lot of fun. Also, we are wearing blue and white. I’m excited for the general atmosphere. Parents are coming to watch their kids; it should be pretty cool. I hope we do this at least once a year, but I would like it to have it more than that. And, we can’t have any Jewish event without food. We will have hot dogs for $2 with buns.

One final question: Are you going to play?

No. I don’t know how to play basketball, I’m not an American. I don’t plan to play, but I’ll do the ceremonial kickoff.

Matzah Baking at the Model Matzah Bakery and purchasing your own Shmurah Matzah for the Seder.

Wednesday is the last day of the Model Matzah Bakery. Haven’t experienced making your own Matzah? Join us today at 4 or 6 pm. Each participant will also get their own mini Shmurah Matzah to use at their Seder.

The European Model Matzah Bakery will be closing shop with the last two workshops offered on April 13 at 4 pm and 6 pm at the Jewish Enrichment Center. The Model Matzah Bakery is an exciting educational and fun experience for the entire family in which participants are able to experience the story and art of Matzah Baking. It features wheat stalks, brick ovens, millstones, etc. which are all setup to form an old style Matzah Bakery. Dressed in baker’s hats, participants will help with the entire process of Matzah making which will include winnowing, threshing, grinding, kneading dough and making their own Matzah.
